Envisage shared hosting architecture
The Envisage shared hosting architecture is unique to the service we provide in partnership with Fasthosts. Developed jointly with Microsoft, Envisage shares the burden of serving your website, across multiple servers. So, if one computer goes wrong, your website remains online!
The temperature controlled, secure data centre houses thousands of Windows and Linux servers, connected via multiple providers to 600Mbs of internet bandwidth. And the unique Envisage, load balanced, shared hosting architecture ensures high reliability.
Operating system
Choose Windows 2003 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux, for each of your domains. Our sub-directory and sub-domain services are hosted on Windows 2003 only.
Windows 2003 Server
Featuring IIS6, the latest version of Microsoft's popular web server software, Windows 2003 hosted websites have full support for Perl, compiled CGI, PHP, ISAPI and SHTML scripting. Optionally available are ASP, MS FrontPage Extensions and support for the .NET Framework.
Red Hat (Linux) Enterprise Server
Our Linux servers run the reliable, widely used combination of Red Hat Enterprise Server and Apache's httpd web server, with support for Microsoft FrontPage Extensions, Perl and PHP scripting. Telnet and SSH secure shell access allow you direct access to your web server's file system.
Load balancing
Load balancing is a powerful feature that ensures your website remains online, even if a server goes down. Load balancing is an optional extra for both the Windows 2003 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux platforms (full service only)
SiteBuilder
Create attractive and compelling websites with our easy to use, exciting SiteBuilder tool! Simply point and click and, with no technical knowledge, you can have a website running in minutes.
Custom error pages
Get rid of ugly browser error messages! You decide what visitors see, depending on the error that occurs, so you can gently guide them back to your site (Full service or Sub-domain)
.NET Framework
Enjoy full support for the .NET Framework on your Windows 2003 hosted domains, allowing your or your customers to run sophisticated web applications.
MatrixStats
See real-time and historical statistics on the usage of sites in your account, including which search engines give you most traffic and where your visitors are located (Full service or sub-domain only)
FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions
All your domains have full support for Microsoft's FrontPage 2002 Extensions; ideal to ease the uploading and management of sites created in FrontPage (Full service or sub-domain only)
SSL secure web pages
Easily set up secure web space on your domains, from your control panel, allowing you to have secure transactions between your websites and visitors; ideal for ecommerce! (Full service or sub-domain only)
Media streaming
Stream audio and video from your websites, in Microsoft's popular WMA and WMV formats (Full service or sub-domain only)
Basic and advanced password protection
Password protect areas of your website, authenticating users from a text file (basic) or ODBC data source (advanced). Our systems handle everything, so you don't need to worry about scripting. This enables you to publish sensitive information to a select group of web users, with ease. Password protection is available on all domains.
FTP accounts
Each option comes with full FTP access for file upload / download.
Database options
Run sophisticated, database-driven web applications, using Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL or ODBC connections (Full service or sub-domain only)
MySQL:
One of the web's favourite database systems, ideal for web based applications on our Linux servers. MySQL databases can be instantly set up and managed from your control panel.
Microsoft SQL Server:
Enjoy the power of Microsoft's hugely popular database system, as used in businesses across the world, for your websites. Manage data using ODBC or Microsoft's Enterprise Manager, with easy setup from your control panel.
ODBC and DSN database connections:
Access ODBC compliant data, from applications such as Microsoft Access and Excel, for use in your websites. ODBC data sources are easily installed from your control panel.
